Story Behind the Song
The first thing I have written since I moved to Australia and the first piece I have writtten using the REASON compositional package. A danceable musical journey through my own odd, quirky, musical frequency. Im in a new country, Im on a new computer, and Im using a new software package AND compositional method so why not just twist the genre a bit and do something that for me is a bit of a stretch in terms of motif and harmony?
This is a bit of a departure for me musically in terms of the musical materials I have chosen, but traipsing along into unfamiliar territory is what my life has been all about for the last few months, and I reckon that metaphorically speaking this song is truly a reflection of my mind set and attitude although when it started I didnt want to admit it to myself. I used the electronic "radio-ish" sounds alot,..they sound liek shortwave to me,..trying to make a connection and being deposited as I was in Australia I'm usre you can appreciate that element. Theres also the fact this piece never really sufficiently resolves the conflict I interjected into it. The tension releases at the end, but by way of safety valve. It gives it that quirky and dark under current. I purposely antiphonaly entered voices with indistinct timbres to give it that fragmented, disembodied, otherworldly charachter. There is a fair amount of purposeful frustration calculated into the design of this music.
As with most of my Electronica, I have no idea where in hell this piece belongs to reside stylistically in terms of genre. To me it is very European sounding and dance like. It also reminds me of The Matrix. It sounds like club music but again, with all my music, I take these radical departures from accepted and practiced theory and juxtapose that with blends of different style, form and function. Its a bit progressive and defintely in terms with my expansionist principles.
