Story Behind the Song
I had been on the road for 30 months trying to get signed, then, with Dog Ear Records, supporting the LP. It was Christmas. I was in Chicago looking out a hotel window. I wrote the beginning of this and all of ChOse Wrong.
I went to Champaign to play the Red Herring.
I met Josh Bragg at a party at UofI and he added an inside out turn of the chords and by dawn, we had finished this tune.
I went back Chi to finish the LP. We put both songs on the album and it was done.
Recording was simple back then, I was a single. I laid down my tracks, got on a Grey Hound, and went on the road. Studio cats hired by the record label did all the work.
Lyrics
1. Just stopped by to tell you
I was thinkin your name
stopped by to ask you baby
mind if I hang around
+++++++++BR+++++++++++++
on the tail of a wester
just blew into town
stopped by to ask you babe
do you still feel the same
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2. I's kinda wondrin
just how it might feel
to feel those same old streets
beneath my feet
===========ch========
I come back home Lord
part boy and part man
come lookin for shelter form my poor soul
with my hat in my hand
=========================
3. I's kinda reachin
seekin to find
a place to rest my weary bones
thru the gray mists of time
============ch==============
Sit me down by the fire, ma
I got some stories to tell
put my walkin shoes on
a back closet shelf
==============================
