Story Behind the Song
After I moved to New Jersey from a stint in the UK I had to drive to Auburn, New York to get some old, practically forgotten trash-like kitch of mine out of storage. I drove through the full moon night and almost hit a deer as he stood fixed in the highway staring up at the moon. Made me think about stuff. I was alone, I felt like the forgotten stuff that had been hidden away, but the remembered that Jesuses' light in us has has made us like the city on the hill, bright and warm - for all to see.
Lyrics
Swerved from a deer in the headlight, nearly lost it, what's to trade, what's to exchange, his life for mine? Saved for the music in the backseat/Shakin'like a weed in a ditch, maybe I miss my exit, maybe I'm waiting for someone to stimulate me - a push to some end, any end/Minutes before sunrise jet trails turn to comets when I shiver in the shadow.../High like a beacon foretelling illumination, behold the comet, is it divine or simply different?/That's my ride. That's my ride/Chorus: So light me up now/cuz it's a dark world we're living in/And when I don't feel human you say, "That's OK, just lay down on me and I'll carry you away, someday, any day now"/v2.Sometimes as close as the moon and me, communing with me, sometimes I'm lonely, feel like going crazy, craving the rush, the sugar, the blush/Waiting for the one to assemble me through the summer, time blurs, it's fall, it's winter, it's Easter/ That's my ride, that's my ride/Chorus/Bridge: Send out a flare for an angel, cupped hands burn on the flame if I try to deny, passion slandered by armies of ashes/We're fugitives running, fugitives running/Chorus/Chorus.
