    Story Behind the Song
    High energy melodic rock.

This song was written right after I read two books: Brighter Than A Thousand Suns (about the development of the Atom bomb) and The Old Man And The Sea by Hemingway. The song contains residual elements of both...

It traces the development of the first Atom bomb, the ensuing Cold War and the apathy that has marked our society in years after. And then there's a bit of 'Old Man And The Sea' subliminal imagery added into the stew for good measure.

    Lyrics
We set the fuse to burning
    brighter than anything
pulled the sun through the eye of a needle
I guess it's just in the nature of people

then we perfected darkness in our twisted way
    darker than a deserted highway
colder than a desert night in a hard freeze

I'm more tired than I've ever been
I had hoped it had all been a dream
    That's how it seemed...

    The seconds are sold
    The minutes are spent
No one's sure where the innocence went
    We have no rest
    We never rest content
We needed the answers - or at least a hint

And I want to believe it
And I just want to leave here again
And I want to believe it
And I just want to leave this town...

    Where's the virtue in learning
    When we don't apply anything?
Nothing's worse than the nature of people
I try to push the image away
Buying our cars, sitting in our Churches
    Watching our movies
    But learning nothing
    Because there's nothing we value

I dreamed I was in that town...

Where I could feel an offshore breeze
But I havent seen the moon for a long time
And I'm not coming back today
For more stupid televised verbal debates

We want to believe that we can't be deceived

Bright moonlit clouds in night sky
Flying fish leaping over the sea
Every minute now is closer to home for me
This is the most fantastic time of my life

    Forget this world is turning
    Please don't disturb anything
    Entertaining thoughts of intervening
Is as useless as trying for a deeper meaning

But I want to believe it
And I just want to leave here again
And I want to believe it
And I just want to leave this town

    Leave this town...
