    Story Behind the Song
I was listening to a woman in Central Park as she hollered to her husband, who had just finished a softball game. She was asking if he wanted to go to this coffee shop on 81st and Madison. She must have repeated the question 6 times. Although it was beginning to get on my nerves, I was thinking that 79th and Madison sounded more musical to me than 81st and Madison. The following day when I was walking in that neighborhood, I discovered that the coffee shop she referred to was actually at 79th and Madison, not 81st. How could I NOT write the song after a coincidence like that?

    Seventy-Ninth & Madison
Words & Music Julie Ann Bailey (BMI)

Will you be there when I come 'round again
    To seventy-ninth and madison?

Were you only waiting for the light to change
Had you meant for your eyes to meet mine?
Would it be, could it be a sign?
I wonder if it ever crossed your mind.

Will you be there when I come 'round again
    To seventy-ninth and madison?

I will ask to buy your cup of coffee
You will hang on every word I say
Would it be, could it be that way?
Possibly you're hoping for the same.

Will you be there when I come 'round again
    To seventy-ninth and madison?

    (bridge)

You must have had a previous engagement
You're not the type who'd disappoint a friend
Would it be, could it be the end?
Just imagine how it might have been.
