    Story Behind the Song
This song was meant to be a father's day present in 1998. Needless to say, I didn't quite meet the deadline. A rough draft was given to my father at Christmas and this is the most recent version; the song is a work in progress. It is meant to be a tribute to someone who never gets the credit they deserve, fathers.

    Lyrics
Through the eyes of a child I watched as childhood passed
Took it for granted, not knowing what I had
How we all wish we could make our childhood last
Under the protective wing, no reason for fear of anything
Between you and mom you made sure I knew I was loved

    Chorus:
I want to thank you for being my dad
You've been the best friend anyone could have and
Though I've grown and gone my own way,
You've always been, and will always be my dad

Sometimes I stop myself and wonder how
The lessons you taught me have led me to where I am now
Through the years I've seen my children grow
I've tried to show them all the love
I pray I've given them more than enough
That lesson seems to be the most important one of all

    Chorus
