Story Behind the Song
We thought this song up in Noah's girlfriend's basement during her birthday party. Now that I think about it, it makes me feel kind of bad, but I got really pissed off and he did a good job calming me down... Originally this was designed to be an instrumental piece and a little bit more ornate than it is now, but I like it as it is... Of course, we're still without drums or bass, but this is kind of an establishing demo of the song's sound and feeling. Tonight's demos reminded me why we've /never/ done any recording straight to my laptop: the sound quality is revolting. My sincerest apologies for the super-drained sound, but the buzz you hear in the background actually occupies every frequency of the song... The bass hum was the most annoying because of my subwoofer, so I made that my priority for removal.
Oh, and don't ask me what 'Let's prepare to shoot the crapperhole' is supposed to mean.
Lyrics
I fell from love with broken wings
Sank into sorrow far too deep for me to see,
Now I understand the things you said to me,
'Your choices are your life, don't throw them all away,'
'Cause any man could be your lover.
Whether he's a saint or just a sinner bound to hate.
And any hand that's waved could show you where to go,
Up or down, it's all the same.
Like an angel from the dark,
I fly to you and you alone.
As all the colors of the long day fade to black,
I know I'm finally coming home.
'Cause anyone could hold my hand as I walk out of sight, oh.
I took your memories out and washed them in the surf.
And any hand that's waved could show me where to go, oh.
Up or down, it's all the same.
I fell from life with broken wings.
Sank into darkness like I'd never seen before.
Now I know what they meant, your life goes flashing by
When you've finally broken through.
'Cause anyone could understand the pictures I see.
Whether they were blind as you or me.
And any hand that's waved could show them where to go.
Up or down, it's all the same.
Like wandering children in the dark,
We cry to God, but hear no reason or reply.
Now we stop and we think, "Have we lost ourselves?"
We know we're never coming home.
