A love song from the man your mother warned you about. A silly bit of fluff. Has been described by one listener as a cross between Lyle Lovett and Dr. Seuss, but she probably says that about everything.
Credits: Written and performed by Tim Hinkle

    Story Behind the Song
This was written way back in 1997. Most of they lyrics were written minutes before the start of my creative writing class at the community college - I hadn't even thought about the assignment the night before. The class thought it sounded like a song and I thought "Yeah." So now it is one.

    Lyrics
hey hey hey is for horses
and neigh is what the naysayers say
how are you I haven't seen you
    since the other day
and ooh the girl you're with looks good
    don't tell me she's a man
    just walk a little slower
let me catch you if I can

    and then the purple penguin
falls like lead out of the sky
and I wonder does it love you
and it asks me well do I

    you walk a little slower
and you end up at a restaurant downtown
    you order something Mexican
    to bring the menu around
and ooh the food they serve tastes good
don't tell me that it's real
    just eat a little slower
let me finish off your meal

    and then the purple penguin
falls like rice onto the ground
    I listen to it hungrily
and think I like the sound

hey hey hey is for horses
and neigh is what the naysayers say
who are you I haven't been you
    on another day
and ooh I wish I had your head
and I would give you mine
and we would come off knowing
what was meant by every line

    and then the purple penguin
drops in and spends the night
when my thoughts have turned from reason
and the reason is my fright
