The "Magnum Opus" of those songs that I have transposed with the keyboard up to now. There's quite a lot of melancholy... How good would this sound with a real band and with better vocals that are not so crappy!

    Story Behind the Song
This song is very personal. It is the first of many following songs that transpose all the depressive and negative feelings inside me. The melodies are very much dominated by melancholy while the text is describing my feelings with a general metaphor containing a gloomy forest. The sound is not too good because I can up to now only make it with a single keyboard instead of a whole band; my search for a band has lasted quite long now and I didn't have any success. Any interested person is supposed to write a mail to me! Well, this recording also is quite old and my voice is quite crappy at that moment. It's getting better now... By the way, my newer songs will no more be rock but more death metal influenced, but still with a melodie and melancholic touch and clean voca,s acoustic parts etc., maybe if you put Opeth and Katatonia together and add the roots of my old style you could imagine what the new material should sound like.
This song was a milestone in my writing process because it very much influenced all the present songs, also they even become more pessimistic from time to time. The idea of using such metaphors and quite depressive formulations now can also be found in nearly every new song.

Note: Lyrics could differ a little from the text sung in the MP3 because it's an old recording and the text has been updated.

    Lyrics
    Cut down
Every day approaching home, carrying new hope inside
Now you're free so hurry, you're free enough to see your light
But every pleasant light at last is far, so far away from me
In its place sun's bright stings burn and blind my eyes so I can't see
Every tree seems to be watching from above what I do wrong
Every cloud with ghostly shadows makes the misery get strong
And the flowers with their beauty send a condescending glance
They just love who tread their soul down with a dying shallow dance

Oh I shouldn't dare to be there
Chances to find one's happiness are rare
If you don't fit the standard, you should die
Every day of life is just a lie

I don't wanna see a thing cause existence isn't fair
If nothing was there, then nobody could care
    I don't wanna see a thing, existence isn't fair
Cause if nothing was there, then nobody would care

It's like living in a forest where the trees are without leaves
Without shelter, without home, living in a world of beasts
When there seems to be a star shining in the darkest skies
Fast it will be disappearing, leaving darkness for the cries
I am waiting for my future to bring back the stars above
But I know I'll have to leave the shadows if I want some love
You can't force me to become a tree and just grow like the rest
So the option to cut down the weeping willow would be best

In life's forest there's a melody being sung upon the stars
Trees will all be at its feet but it won't calm down my heart
But the tops will be away and can reveal the sky to me
And a bird could land on moss then give me chance to flee

And give me a chance to flee
I am living in a grove of shadows
    Cut down
