Story Behind the Song
This song is dedicated to my brother Tommy who is currently fighting cancer and to my cousin Cheryl who lost her fight with cancer.
Lyrics
Phone call:
Hello
Hi Son
Hey Mom, what's up.
Well
What's wrong
Your brother is in the hospital with cancer.
Oh no, Tommy's got cancer too? We're still praying for Cheryl.
Cherly's doing better.
So what do the doctor says?
They have to do surgery and chemo.
Are they doing the surgery after the chemo?
Surgery then the chemo.
All we can do is pray Mom.
We're all praying.
Tommy will be OK.
I know he will.
VERSE 1
Unwanted invasion, no time to prepare. One day all is fine, the next day it was there.
What you want to hear is just what they will say. The only real hope will come, will come if you pray.
CHORUS 1
To overcome, they say you’ll overcome. You’re not the only one, to overcome.
Soul searching, pain aching. Overwhelming, desperation. Disappointing, expectations. Mind numbing, medication.
Fighting back with dedication. Chemo sick and radiation. Racing thoughts and meditation.
VERSE 2
Unwanted invasion, full of despair. Each day seems deeper, deeper than the past.
What they are saying, it seems that they care. But the only real hope will come, will come in a prayer.
CHORUS 2
To overcome, you know you’ll overcome. Cause you’re not the only one, to overcome.
Heart aching, pain staking. Violating, infestation. Sharp probing, penetration. Deep wounds, convalescing.
Moderation, non-existent. Medication, coalescing. Excessive, inoculation.
VERSE 3
Unwanted invasion, now it’s all clear. Each day seems brighter, much brighter than before.
What they are saying, it all seems unreal. The hopes of the prayer have all been fulfilled.
CHORUS 3
To overcome, yes to overcome. Not the only one, to overcome.
Soul searching, dedication. Overwhelming, expectation. Spirit lifting, revelation. Heart warming, gratification.
Non-existent, desperation. Calming thoughts, meditation. Divine touch, jubilation.
To overcome, yes to overcome. Not the only one, to overcome.
