Fast tune with prominent Birdsy 12-string riffs about a girl who has given up on love and the unfortunate guy who runs into her " after all these years."
    CD: Timberline   Label: Oak Ridge
Credits: Mike McGowan: vocals, guitars; Dewees Johnson: bass, vocals; Fernando Johnson: drums

    Story Behind the Song
This 12-string idea started out as an aire on an 6/8 Irish fiddle tune. In the final version, the electric 12-string has a feel that's sort of like a banjo in a bluegrass arrangement. The opening riff is doubled on the acoustic 12-string.

    Lyrics
V1 Rachel walks her lonely valley
Past neon signs and cold, deserted alleys
The love that she once knew but can’t remember
Smolders to a single, dying ember

V2 Long ago this blinding blizzard caught her
Falling through the ice to drown in love’s dark water
Now all the joy that life might bring her
Runs right through her frozen fingers

Ch And Rachel won’t you talk to me
It’s much too cold to walk these streets
Rachel won’t you get back in the car?

It can never be like it was before
But you’re wearin’ the same dress that you wore
That night you showed me who you really are

V3 She swears she’ll never love again
That no power on earth could mend
The bridge that spans the chasm to her heart
I fall right in before I can even start

    Ch as above

Br The snow blows cold on Rachel’s mountain
Alone, she tends her frozen fountain
Ice forms on the earth beneath her feet
The silence of her heart sounds her retreat

    Ch as above

Out Out on the streets in this bitter cold
Your love can be bought but it can never be sold
Rachel come inside and warm your heart

Come sit by my fire and I’ll make us some tea
We can talk until dawn or just watch the TV
Rachel won’t you get back in the car
