Story Behind the Song
I always missed my Dad, who died when I was just twelve. He was and still is my idol, loved and respected for the principles he stood for.My Mom took the place of my Dad wonderfully and I am who I am only because of them. The song was written twenty years ago, though this recording was done year before last. I dedicate the song to the memory of my dearest Dad and Mom, who are now together, still looking out for me.
Lyrics
I remember the times I used to rock on your knee
When you came back so tired, in the evenings
CHORUS
Oh, oh Daddy, Daddy, why did you leave me and go
Daddy, Daddy, why did you leave us alone
I still remember the days when you used to read me those stories
And I used to sit on your knee, staring believingly
Oh, oh Daddy (chorus)
(spoken)
DADDY, WHEN YOU DIED I WAS A YOUNG BOY AND I TRULY NEVER KNEW THE NEED OF YOU, BUT NOW THAT I'M A GROWN MAN, I TRULY MISS YOU DADDY AND I ALWAYS WILL. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT MEMORIES ARE THINGS THAT JUST FADE AWAY, BUT DADDY I'LL CAN NEVER FORGET YOU AND NEVER WILL
When I see the tears in Mama's eyes, I know she's thinking of you
and I feel like crying, cos I'm grieving too
Oh oh Daddy, Daddy ...(chorus)
