This song was written as a tribute to birthmothers who give their children a chance at life and give them up for adoption, particularly the birthmothers of my two children by way of adoption (Faith Amore and Samuel)
CD: A Mother's Love   Label: CDO Music Group
Credits: Written by Carl S. Dorsey Music and Sung By Ian Holmes

    Story Behind the Song
My wife and I adopted two children Samuel and Faith Amore. Samuel's birthmother wrote him a letter for him to open when he was old enough to understand the concept of adoption. This song describes his experience opening that letter from his birthmother at his 7th birthday. Also, someone asked me what kind of mother would bear such a beautiful child and give him away. This song was written in response to that question as well. The answer is a very loving mother.

    Lyrics
    Samuel’s Song

I got letter from my birthmother, on this my seventh birthday.
Though she wrote it many years ago, I still love what it has to say.
It said, “My child please know I love you as much as any mother can.
I am writing you this note right now to help you to understand.

I loved you enough to give you up.
And I cared enough to share a better way of life.
Yes, I loved you enough to give you up.
And I cared enough to give you a fighting chance.

She said, “people may be wondering what kind of mother could I be,
To bear such a precious child and not be there to meet their needs.”
Please know it wasn’t easy making the choice that I made.
But when I looked into your trusting eyes, nothing else could be said.

So I loved you enough to give you up.
And I cared enough to share a better way of life.
Yes, I loved you enough to give you up.
And I cared enough to give you a fighting chance.

As I finished up the letter, tears began to fill my eyes.
My dad reminded me how blessed I was to have three moms on my side.
Mom, if I could give you a present on this my birthday,
I would wrap myself in a big red bow, and here’s what the card would say.

Thank you for loving me enough to give me up.
Thank you for caring enough to share a better way of life.
Thank you for loving me enough to give me up.
Thank you for caring enough to give me a fighting chance.

Thank you for caring enough to give me a fighting chance.
Thank you for caring enough to give me a fighting chance.
