Story Behind the Song
A song I wrote when I was 17, getting over my first 'serious' relationship. The person that I loved, changed my life, left me stranded, but stronger. As you're always told 'you can't suddenly turn off the tap of love', and it just takes time. There are tonnes of physical reminders that things did happen, but you can't arrange the things in your mind as easily...
Lyrics
Let It Go
Written by Shell Lee
The chapter turns
my heart still burns
for the time when
we were one
but that was then
and this is now
we simply were too young
You're still with me
in that old picture frame
Did you forget me?
I wonder who is to blame?
[chorus]
These memories fill my head
my heart sinks like there's lead in it
you changed my life
but then you slipped away
There are no words to be said
what-could-have-been's are left for dead
the spin-cycle turns again
I must let it go
You pop into my mind some days
I'm crushed, but start to say
That "I am loved", that "I am strong"
I really must go on
We're far from perfect
I guess there's something
to learn from it
I see our reflection
most of it was me I'll admit
[chorus]
[bridge]
I've gotta "let it go",
misery makes my life so slow
I've gotta "let it go",
before you keep the best of me
[chorus]
These memories fill my head
my heart sinks like there's lead in it
you changed my life
but then you slipped away
There are no words to be said
what-could-have-been's are left for dead
the spin-cycle turns again
I must let it go
