Story Behind the Song
The lyrics were invented whilst the writer was swimming in a warm pool in a stinky city in Borneo, thinking about the depressive effects of Lariam malarial treatment and the relief that Temazepam (a sleeping pill) brings to the early hours.
The song is also a metaphor for a relationship.
Lyrics
Temazepam
Awake, alive, to sleep, to die
compassion cruel, harsh delight
my visions true, or fool’s respite?
an opiate touch that leads into the night..
Temazepam, temazepam
how sweet to call you by your name.
when you’re gone, when you’re gone
I’ll still remain, remain the same
Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight
the evening breeze comes ever slight
Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight
you are my wrong, you are my right
Temazepam
a lie, a thorn inside my mind
temazepam
construct, confront, believe, deny..
I saw Jesus in my sink
among dirty dishes and other things
saw the rise of irrelevancy
reinforced and dissident.
From a window I saw it all
sadness stretched out by the door
to build a house and watch it fall
is this was I was building for?
Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight
the evening breeze comes ever slight
Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight
the evening breeze, the evening breeze...
Temazepam
a lie, a thorn inside my mind
temazepam
a lie, a lie, a lie
construct, confront, believe, deny
temazepam
a lie, a lie, a lie!
