Story Behind the Song
Rainy afternoon, feeling bored, what will we do? Let's muck about in the studio. Jeff played around with some loops, I was looking through old journals for some cool lyrics, and it all came together in a couple of hours. The lyrics are about facing the true person inside, the not-so-nice bits, the Voodoo part of ourselves.
Lyrics
I have stopped talking in mundane, muted tones
I've tripped across the remnants of an ancient lover's bones
A lover from another place, from another world
Driven into chaos, from chaos I was hurled
Don't cry for me, don't cry for me, don't cry for me, I'd (secretly) love it if you cried for me
I have a bottle with a secret deep inside
I keep it in the darkness, from the sun I hide
A solitary teardrop stolen from your eyes
You're going down, I'm Voodoo Girl, here to make you cry
Don't cry for me, don't cry for me, don't cry for me, I'd (secretly) love it if you cried for me
So confused, you'll never know, you only see a part
of what I am, complexity, you can't take it apart
I can't be compartmentalized, tidied into piles
Lift the lid, you never know, the things that you will find
Don't cry for me, don't cry for me, don't cry for me, I'd (secretly) love it if you cried for me
