Recorded in one piano and one vocal track on a digital 4-track. A song about two very important days in the lives of my wife and I; the first being the day we met and the second being the day she was diagnosed with cancer before passing away nine months later.I love you Rose. |

Story Behind the Song
Music, like life, is all about change - changing notes, instruments and rhythms come together to make what we call music. It's amazing to think of the millions of songs written using combinations of just 12 different tones (notes) and the endless variation that can come from just one chord progression. Music doesn't just need change it demands it and cannot exist without it. And again, so does life. Life without change is stagnation and eventually death. A musician, an artist in music, understands and embraces change knowing that when he creates he gives life to something that will bring change in his and others' lives. An artist in life also embraces change whether good or bad, glorious or catastrophic. Which is what OFF AND FLYING is all about - changes in life, grand and tragic and changes in music - in form, tempo and genre. The same theme repeated in variation, new and different everytime. And how songs, like our actions, take in lives of their own, creating change and new possibilities and opportunities in their wake. The songwriter merely releases them and they're OFF AND FLYING, everchanging and ever new.
Lyrics
You're off and flying and I'm still trying to find my wings
This fear of falling has always kept me from my dreams
I'm left here standing, afraid of everything
And you're off and flying and I'm still trying to find my wings
Remember when we first met
I looked in to your eyes and promised
That someday you and I would wed
You just looked at me and laughed
You shook your head and touched my cheek
And this is what you said
You're off and flying ...
And then on that fateful day
You looked in to my eyes so frightened
By what might lie ahead
I didn't know what to say
I shook my head and touched your cheek
And this is what I said
You're off and flying . . .
