Story Behind the Song
Producer's notes: Never in a million years would we have known that a New Year's Eve dinner would be the basis for one of the best tracks I've ever produced. Our waiter, a Mr. Homer Broadnax, was best explained as other-worldly. He took our order, and maybe a piece of our heart as he hypnotized us with his hands... fingers that moved independently of each other, waving to portray the catfish that would be the night's special (represented by the wavey sounds in the background). The soul food he promised us did more than fill up the physical. It truly fed our souls. Though none of us knew what to expect going in, we left content in knowing that somewhere on a back porch, Aunt Kizzy's callin' Homer in for some of the best cornbread money can buy.
Lyrics
Hands. Hands.
More powerful than words
They become living, being, seeing...
Illuminating the meaning of life
Cornbread.
Meant to be touched
Felt
Melt - with the butter spread by our hands
Catfish.
Wiggle and Wave
What cannot you do?
You friend the Snapper
blushes Red when you are near
How do you live life like that?
You have no hands.
I checked.
Now I turn to my collard greens,
potato pie...
Okra and corn.
Can you fry my tomatoes
With you well worn hands?
No, you say?
Ah Snap
