Story Behind the Song
Written around my first visit to New York,
and seeing a man wrapped in plastic bags, seeing a sign pointing to, what I thought would be a park, but was an underground garage! Being swept up from the mean streets, to play "The Other End", and the welcome New Yorkers gave to my work. They listen!
Lyrics
Dressed in plastic bags, sleeping all night subways
Spare the fare for someone, with no-where to go.
Lights on Broadway dazzle,
Laughter on the stairs,
A poet who's seen a million years, says "This is Times Square, yeah, yeah.
A fancy hiphop dancer who works for a price.
Placed near the window,
To catch passers by.
To be in Manhattan, the chance in the air, Where any second can seem like a year.
Manhattan, Manhattan....Take me there!
World on an island, hostile, yet kind
A roar where silence, dwells in your mind
The sun may be shining, in moments it's gone
Where Eastside shelters, Westside storms!
Manhattan.......
Natures survival, handed to man
In Manhattan you live while you can
The curtain rises, you know that you're there
Where any moment can lay your soul bare.
Manhattan.......Take me there!
