Story Behind the Song
Modern day "Mac the Knife" theme, about life on the other side of the tracks. Inspired by the atmosphere of post riot Los Angeles. Making the point that those that were never taught right from wrong, have to survive, however.
Lyrics
They live the dive on the side of life,
Where 45 means the barrel size,
On the skids the kids with hungry eyes
See Mercedes driving by.
Drinking beer, watching crime First place on prime time.
Glamourised they sympathise with the guys who stand on their side
At the dive, Down at the dive...........
So they spin the wheel, throw the dice
Keep the tax, fix the price
They've got folks, kids and wife,
But they're on the other side of life
Down at the dive, down at the dive......
So they get their car from the junkyard
Get their clothes by the truck load
Get their kicks from the rich quick
And zip their lips for the smart Dick
Down at the dive, down at the dive.....
Does the modern day Robin' Hood
Stand up for the peoples good
Is the law for, or unsure
Where lines meet, or guns draw.
Down at the Dive, down at the dive......
