    Story Behind the Song
    Artist History
Katelyn (now 13) has an exceptional voice with excellent potential. She is studying with Dr. Dean FH Macy of New England Talent, Ltd., a professional children's vocal tutor. Katelyn is under contract with her manager, New England Talent Management and has been signed by Epilogue (EPI) Records.

    Song History
Traced to the early eighteenth century, the verses refer to a lover's enlistment in the "Wild Geese" of the Irish Brigade 1691-1740), who served with the French, hoping somehow to drive the English out of Ireland.
In the third chorus line, the Gaelic "go to the door and creep out with me" is the portion of the song directed to her lover as an exhortation to leave his comrades and come home to her RATHER than taking ship for France. Clearly, she fails, for the last Gaelic line says, "God keep you safe where you are."

    Lyrics
    Translation of Gaelic Chorus
    Go, go, go my love
    Go gently and go quietly
Go to the door and creep out with me
God keep you safe where you are

I wish I were on yonder hill
'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill,
And ev'ry tear would turn a mill,
Iss guh day thoo a voorneen slawn.

    CHORUS-
    Shul, shul, shul a ruin
    Shul go succir agus, shul go kewn;
Shule go dheen durrus oggus aylig lume,
Iss guh day thoo a vorneen slawn.

I'll sell my rod, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Iss guh day thoo a vorneen slawn.
    CHORUS
I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red
And through the streets I'll beg my bread,
Until my parents shall wish me dead
Iss guh day thoo a vorneen slawn.
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
    CHORUS
I wish I had my heart again,
And vainly think I'd not complain
Iss guh day thoo a vorneen slawn.
    CHORUS
But now my love has gone to France
To try his fortune to advance.
If he e'er come back, 'tis but a chance
Iss guh day thoo a vorneen slawn.
