Lyrics
The lyrics for this song where written in 1915 during World War I by Hans Leip, a young soldier before he was sent to to the Russian front. It was discovered in 1937 by Norbert Schultze, a well known composer, who created this famous song for Lale Andersen and it was recorded just before the beginning of the war. But only in 1941 it was broadcasted by Radio Beograd to the German Afrika Korps and immediately banned in Germany. But the Allies listened to this song and Lili Marleen became the favourite song for soldiers on both sides, fried and foe alike.
