Here's a song written years ago that has finally come to be recorded. Although it is long, it is very powerful and meaningful.
    CD: Shipyard Wreck Demo Recordings
Credits: Music: J. Gagne / Lyrics: J. Gagne

    Story Behind the Song
    James Gagne commentary:

I wrote this song back in 2000 just after I graduated from high school. It was a warm summer night in my bedroom in the basement of my house. It took about two hours to write and it has evolved into what the recording is now. I have my own thoughts on the lyrics, but I wrote it with the intentions of you listening and making your own assumptions. We were recording a demo in Sheppard Studio, where we recorded the Get Wrecked album. We told the engineer to just hit record and we did Life's Trail for just about 16 minutes. We hadn't planned on recording it, but everything went smoothly in the studio and we had extra time, so we just did it. We will re-record this someday again, but for now, this is our masterpiece.

    Lyrics
    VERSE 1
Lady, I was walking down the road
I found out that life is going
A trail of people walk with me on this road we never know (we never see)
My mind has been wandering, its moving, going, going, gone
Sunshine lights the sky and then comes the crescent moon
    It’s nighttime.
The trail that had been tread on is now accompanied only by one.

    CHORUS:
I never wanted it to be this way
I never dreamt it in a million years
I’m traveling my road in another way
While you travel yours mutually solitary today
But I never wanted it to be this way
No, I guess….I’ll find my own way home
We’re split apart and go where our own ways roam
Keep walking all alone, always wishing the best for you

    Find your trail home
Maybe we’ll meet or cross paths as we roam
    Find your trail home
Our destination is inevitable, it’s our time to go

    VERSE 2

Indecision is a hard thing to bare, but we make our decisions,
    And being apart is rare
I’ve got to find my way home, I’m almost there and almost gone
The trail that we quest is the life that we lead,
    I’m searching and you’re searching
But we both know who we really need
Cause I love you and I hope that you love me
But on this road, we just cannot see
That our lives are perpendicular to each other

    VERSE 3

I’ve been watching the sun rise, and thinking
Now, that our world is gone, I don’t know where to start,
Or is this the end? A life in perpetual motion – halted
Worn out from working, living, and drinking
But I’m leaving like a herd of turtles and that means slow
Rush everyday, only looking for devotion and pay
I’m a restless warrior in the manifestation
So, we keep pulling apart and I don’t want to see you go
    …baby listen to me that

Follow your own road or trail
We all have paths we must follow
Walk, run – just take it slow or
Life may suddenly bail…..out on you
