Story Behind the Song
"Oop Bop Sh'Bang" was written sometime in '01. It borrows from jazz tradition in two ways: one from the title, which refers to Dizzy Gillespie's "Oop Bop Sh'Bam" (a nonsense sort of lyric:oop bop sh'bam-de kloogelmop!); and two in a musical reference to the tune 'Salt Peanuts'-also from Dizzy Gillespie.
Andy and I play the melody together at first, and he takes the first solo. My solo builds slowly, after which we trade a round of 4's and on out.
Hope you enjoy 'Oop Bop Sh'Bang'. And stay tuned for the rest of the CD.
