Lyrics
"Aurora"
V1
The wind and dust was blowing across the Walker Valley
A young farmer looked on and he dearly missed his family
Last years drought had left him with nothing left to lose
The outlaws took his family and left his heart a bruise
He turned his head and tipped his hat to the graves off in the distance
A final plea on deaf ears that wouldn't show resistance
He let go, he moved on
He came riding into town after three days in the saddle
Looking for some vittles and to dust off from his travels
He tied his horse up at the rail and headed to get a swallow
A loud saloon and a hotel room seemed the place to wallow
He made his way up to the bar and ordered a shot of whiskey
Told the barkeep to leave the bottle, he'd drink all he could carry
He sat down, he sat still
So alone and far from home with just a horse and axe to bury
A burden so hard and heavy, a load a man should never carry
A hundred men were at the call to put an end to his trauma
Rowdy town in West Nevada, a place they called Aurora
V2
He sat there 'til there was just a trickle in his bottle
It seemed the lights were out it was just the calm before the battle
He stood up put on his hat, in his eyes a fire burned
In the morning he would wake and his enemies would learn
One more night of misery was all he'd have to take
He'd heap the coals on their heads all saintly ways forsake
He'd let go, to seal their fate
The sun crept its weary eye over the Wassuk Range
He stared into the looking glass prepared for the exchange
Down in the street a cold chill began to blow
He made his way to make their fate no mercy he would show
Six guns hung on both his hips in his mind there was no worry
Their death would come with hail and fire dealt with deadly fury
He walked out, he made his move
So alone and far from home with just a horse and an a axe to bury
A burden so hard and heavy, one he'd resolved to carry
Ten men in his sites he drew up both his pistols
A rowdy in town in West Nevada, a place they called Aurora
V3
The smoke had cleared and people stared disbelieving what they'd seen
A single man with smoking guns, only one standing at the scene
He looked down and at his feet were the men that took away his family
He went down on one knee and prayed for men ungodly
After he'd said his peace he rose looked at those still staring
found his horse and saddled up, rode off in peace in knowing
He'd evened up, he moved on
So alone and far from home with just a horse and a pain to carry
A burden still hard and heavy, but a burden he had buried
The rising sun and the future bright, he could start again
Far from his pain in West Nevada, a place they called Aurora
