Story Behind the Song
My dad used to say "It's Always Somethin'" whenever anyone told him of their troubles, or he talked about his own. This isn't the first song with this title, but it's the first one I've written. The "damned if you do and damned if you don't" was also one of my dad's favorite lines.
Lyrics
It's Always Somethin' (c)1999 by Joe Kretschmer
Well, life's a bitch and then you die, in between ya gotta give it a try.
Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you cry, sometimes you just give up.
Some days you think you're gettin' ahead, other days you wish you were dead.
And most of the time it just boils down to luck.
Chorus
'Cause it's always somethin'; it's always somethin'.
That's what my old man used to say,
When he came to the end of a real hard day,
You're damned if you do and your damned if you don't,
And you might get by (but you probably won't)
'Cause it's always somethin', yeah, it's always somethin'
It's always somethin' now don't you know.
Well, the furnace is busted, the toilet leaks, carpets stink and the floorboards creak,
Ya come home from work too tired to speak, just sit there and drink it in.
Some mornings you just don't wanna get up, there's a big old crack in your favorite cup,
Overdue bills keep pilin' up, and your bankbook's getting thin… [chorus]
Well, there's war and hunger and killer bees, your kids have the flu and your dog's got fleas.
They say that bad things come in threes, and I don't doubt that's true.
With all the troubles in the world today, don't ya just wish they would go away?
But in the end there's nothing you can do… [chorus]
