Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in a state of spiritual frustration, hoping to find a way out. It was written in August 2001, recorded live in London.
Lyrics
Well I spent my time in limbo
Watched the world go by
I had it in my heart there
Didn't care to try
I don't wanna be with people
I don't wanna be alone
I've got to spend my time here
Like an aimless rolling stone
Chorus:
So much, pain
I can't go inside here
Somewhere in between
So much, pain
There's got to be some goodness
For those who've never seen, yeah.
I want to love you deeply
I've tried so many times
To manufacture feelings
Like you'd believe the lines
We tell ourselves those phrases
We just want to get by
I so built up my collection
Believe in my own lies
Bridge:
Well I've broken every rule
As far as I can see
But I tell you I'm no fool
At least that I am free
So much, pain
I can't go inside here
Somewhere in between
So much painful, yet so unfaithful
There's got to be some goodness
For those who've never seen, yea
