Story Behind the Song
This song is about my first real love. Most of it was written on a bus ride home from Austin while trying not to disturb the fellow passengers with my overhead light. The funny thing is we ended up breaking up about a month after I wrote it, but hey, it's rock, and what would rock be without heartbreak? Multiple references to times we spent together. Basically, I'm introverted, and I love her.
Lyrics
Hold me close my baby blue
I've got so much to say to you.
Try to express where words should fail,
Sit back, relax, hear me tell the tale...
Of when I first met you you were a punky little fox
With your horn rim glasses and your multi-colored socks,
We didn't talk at first but then I made you laugh like crazy
When I looked into your eyes and asked if you would hold me baby.
Chorus:
And I'm scared cuz I can't see (what it is you see in me)
I just want us to be free (but they just won't let us be)
And now I think I have the key but its getting late and I should be getting home
Don't hold back my girl in black,
I know that there is no turning back,
Through the night the emotion flies,
lost in the abyss that is your eyes,
And this is the house where I used to laugh and play
And this is the hole where I sit and waste away
And this is the song saying I wish you were here
And this is your voice that is ringing in my ears
Chorus
Please don't cry my sweet in green,
It's not as bad as it may seem,
We'll take it slow and I won't fight
You'll write by day and I'll sing by night
And now that we're together we're a team that can't be beat,
Wreaking havoc in the halls and causing panic in the streets,
Was with you in the beggining, will be with you in the end,
Rather lose you as a lover than to lose you as a friend.
