Story Behind the Song
Just below Yosemite in the Sierras, is a beautiful logging road that goes from Bass Lake up into the high country. We had picnics at Jackass Meadow every summer and Ill never forget the rock in the middle.
I worte this hoping for a sing-along in the car...a foot-stomping fun song. Kids seem to love it, which is exactly what I hoped for. My whole family sang songs together all the way up and back on that logging road.
Lyrics
Theres a rock in the middle of the field thats green
And a spring running through and it smells like spring
In the meadow, Jackass meadow
The trees so tall, poking into the sky
But Im too little to climb that high
In the meadow, Jackass Meadow
CH
Round and round the wagon goes
Dodging bumps in the old dirt road
Excitement builds in the pine tree woods
Singing songs, making up words
I stand on the rock, sing On Top of the World
My parent smiles through every word
In the middle, Jackass Meadow
When it gets real late and we have to go home
My heart tugs a little cause I don’t know
When we’ll be back to oh… Jackass Meadow
CH
Theres a rock in the middle of the field thats green
And a stream running through and it smells like spring
And the trees are tall poking into the sky
But Im too little to climb that high
But I love that rock in the middle, of the meadow
Love that rock in the middle of the meadow
Jackass Meadow, Jackass Meadow, Jackass Meadow
