Story Behind the Song
This song was written for a dear friend of mine who moved to Europe for 6 or so months. I wrote it in about 15 minutes and recorded it, again, in my dorm room-- piddling artists do what they can. This song is sort of proof to me that my patience does exist-- I guess I sort of, immortalized it. yes yes yes, true love waits. :)thank you to my piano and my multi-track recording device. and also to windows '98.
Lyrics
3 a.m. june 23
you're leaving town but not leaving me
and isn't life funny
it's painfully sweet,
i meet you, i kiss you goodbye
summer's here the house is a mess
but I don't care, got bigger wounds to dress
you won't see my birthday or the fourth of july
i'll have no one to hold as the fireworks go by
but you'll be home for christmas
and I'll leave the light on for you
halellujiah may the world be good to you
until then
i never told you but I think you're strong
loving so well and still carrying on
and we sacrifice a little for doing things right
and it may be a sin, but I miss you tonight
i threw my salute and you got on your plane
and I went back home
from wherever I came
and "baby, life's long" you say
whisking away
and I couldn't speak,
but I wanted to say
so you'll be home for christmas
and I'll leave the light on for you
hahlellujiah may the world be good
as I would
to you
