	Story Behind the Song I wrote the fire in 1992. I was in my first marriage and things weren't going to great. I sat down with my guitar and the little riff at the start of the song just came out. The meaning of the song is the sadness that one feels when a love you know once was very true has faded away. It took about a week to write the first verse an chorus. I wrote the second verse the night before i went in the studio. I think it took 3 takes to record. Lyrics The Fire I used to see a fire in your eyes everytime you called my name but time has turned that fire into a flckering flame I could look inside those eyes and see a love I knew was mine but now he light's so dim i can't see a thing chorus now there's ashes from a once bright flame drowned by the teardrops that fell like rain I wish I could go back in time and find that love I knew was mine but now the fire's gone out and i cant find my way i believe that love is a fire burning bright strong enough to light up the darkest night but there's no fire any more likthere was once before and i wish there was someway i could fan the flames repeat chorus
