Story Behind the Song
I was playing with a friend of mine and the verse came up. We worked it out and the next day I wrote the chorus and the middle section. A few weeks later we recorded a demo of it. I listened to the demo every day at the beach. I finished the tune 15 years later. It took forever to sequence and even longer to record. I also had to relearn it three times because I kept forgetting the chords between sessions. I finally wrote a chart for it. I had to keep doing the vocals over until my voice was in shape. The song is right at the top of my range. I'm not complaining though. The solos were done in one take. They were meant to be scratch tracks but I got kicked out of my studio and
didn't have anywhere to record for awhile and forgot the changes again so I said "screw it".
Lyrics
BIG WORLD
I'D BEEN A LOT OLDER IN MY YOUNGER DAYS
I HAD ALL OF THE ANSWERS
IN THE QUESTIONING PHASE
WHEN I GREW TIRED OF THE LATEST CRAZE
HOW WOULD I FIND MY WAY IN THIS
BIG, BIG WORLD, BIG, BIG WORLD
NARROWING IN ON A RELEVANT NORM
SORTING THE FICTION FROM
THE FACT AND THE FORM
FACING WHAT'S REAL RIDING THE STORM
THATS WHERE THE TRUTH IS BORN IN THIS
BIG, BIG WORLD, BIG, BIG WORLD
RUNNING THROUGH LIFE LIKE A MAN IN A MAZE
SEARCHING FOR MEANING AND COMING OF AGE
LOOKING FOR ANSWERS IN THE TURN OF A PHRASE HERE I COME I'M HERE TO STAY
BIG, BIG WORLD, BIG, BIG WORLD
