Story Behind the Song
The world will change, and as I lay awake imagining the world we're creating, this song came to me.
Lyrics
Oh children don't you worry,
We're going to be alright,
Close your eyes I'll tell a story,
'Bout a wondrous and hopeful sight.
This land was not dusty,
And this land was never so dry,
In the days before the warming,
We fed the world with wheat and rye.
(and the) Rain is going to fall,
And the sky will open up,
Salt Creek again will rise,
Runnin' over like a cup,
And the rain is going to fall, ...
Oh children are you sleeping,
You don't want to see me cry,
The green fields I grew up with,
Exist only in my minds eyes.
It tortures me to remember,
As I wait for the water truck,
How the water used to flow, from above and below,
Oh the fortune and the luck.
If the rain would only fall,
If the clouds would shed their tears,
If the seeds would only grow,
And put to rest my fears,
That the rain will never fall, ...
Oh children are you dreaming,
Of a land that you'll never see,
Where the ditch out back becomes a river,
And Big Hole becomes a sea,
You'll be Playing in the rain,
And splashing in the mud,
And the water trucks will rust,
And it'll never be the same again.
The rain is going to fall, ...
