    Story Behind the Song
on the morning of november 8, 2001, i was awakened from a nightmare about terrorism... only to find that the nightmare was reality. not even two months ago, american citizens were experiencing the aftermath of what happens in some countries every day. i wanted to leap to my country's defense... and then i realized that a lot of what i loved about america was its ideal... not what was true about it today.

in june of the following year i recorded this as a reply to a request from a friend i interact with mostly through our urban poetic arists' website. with it i express my love for what the usa could be... despite the fact that the love is currently unrequited...

    Lyrics
    i can't choose
    to be delusional
    and maybe until
    now
    i've been confusing you
    with my wild theories
and the scary books i ask you to read
and the fear i have for my future seed
    we
    reap what we
    reap what we
    reap what we
    ....
so if we think the New World Order
    is a fool's fiction
and it is written on our money
    today,
    who is the fool?

    yet we
    Say
    we believe--
    or maybe we believe
    that we believe--
    that
    our money
could never end up in the
    hands of the few

    although some
    separate parts of our souls
    knew
    full well that it
    already was

    and
    Time
    swallows
    Warner
    which got swallowed
    by AOL
    whose Sorry
    AIM product
    made me reboot twice
    while i wrote this

    but
    they will
    merge
    and
    merge
    and
    merge
    until
    all the world companies
    are all
    owned by the same men
    you try and dispute me
    and you know
    that, again,
    this isn't me speaking.
    it's part of His Prophecy
    that
    they'll be
    one company
    tis of thee
    Straight Mackin
    Liberty,
    USA as her pimp.

    at which time/warner/aol
    we will begin
    to die of
    the suppression of
    our sick urge to splurge
    ...and for the first time
    we won't just be broke
    or indebted
    we will have no currency.
    None.
    unless we're willing to
    run and
    forsake our God
by putting a barcode on our
    foreheads or hands

    ///oh that's right!////
you think the beast is coming
    in some far off future?
    the beast is a computer
    in Brussels, Beligium
    today
    whose mark appears
    on every product that don't
    grow out the earth

you don't even have to believe me
    just wait
    and see
black people won't be the only ones who
    realize
    that we are not free
    and
    when that day comes
    it will be
    of Sweet Miss Liberty
    that
    we will sing.
    the blues.
    again.

    only
this time we'll all sing together
    this land where
    our fathers will cry
    will be the same land
    where our children die
go live on a mountain side
    or your Freedom
    will ring
    you up collect
    And
    long distance
    to say goodbye.

    and yet
    until recently
    we thought we were
    safe in America
    when in 3.5 hours
    on any given day
    if someone else
willing to die for their cause
    decides that we should too
we will live only long enough
    to witness the end of
    humanity

    but still we feel
    that
    it doesn't matter
    to our personal lives
    that other countries
    HATE
    America
    because of her foriegn policy
    that other countries
    HATE
    Americans
because we turn a blind eye
to the actions of our own nation
who say they are acting on our behalf
    yes they hate us
    yes even afrikan amerikans
    though we share
    some
    of the same struggles.

    but we are
    blameless, no?
    we sit
    at a table we
    Know
    is stolen
and we eat from a table of
    stolen food
    built by a governement that
    stole the construction labor
    from Our Immediate Family

    aren't we taught
    our whole lives
    that receiving stolen property
    is wrong?

    of course
we should not be the ones
to die for our forefathers mistakes
in a flaming tower of babel
    or anywhere else
    but also
we must not behave as if
    we are not awake
or that we don't see the Evil
    being done in our names,

    when we accept the freedom
    to sit at the table
    we have the
    Responsibility
    to protest
    the politics that fed us
yes even as we eat the food.

    so
    before
    my friendly visit
    from Homeland Security
    i ask you
    nay i beg

see what is before your eyes
    and
    act.
    before you are
    acted upon.
