Story Behind the Song
INSPIRATION:
2 Corinthians 5:17
This is the title track of the CD, yet the one I wrote last. I knew what it was going to be called and what it would be about, but I wanted to profit from all that we’d learned recording the first 11. This is essentially my personal testimony, as told to a non-believing friend. I celebrate each December 18th by going to Pomona First Baptist Church, outside in front by the fountain, and reflecting on my walk with God since the night, years ago, that I sat there shivering in the cold and asked Jesus into my life. Bob made a great suggestion to include ideas from “How to become a Christian”, which appears on our church program each week.
We hadn’t done anything jazzy yet, so I thought we’d go for it. I asked Aaron Genzink to add his tenor sax to the arrangement to help give it that flavor. My favorite musical part of our entire CD is Bob’s solo in the instrumental/modulation section.
I pray Lord, that our testimony and invitation falls on receptive ears and open hearts, and that through Christ, lives will be changed. Amen.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 )
CHANGE OF HEART
words & music: Scott Maynard
Verse 1
You remind me my friend, of the way I used to be
Never needed help to control my destiny
But there was something missing
I tried to fill that void oh so selfishly
Verse 2
Never thought of myself as somebody bad
Yet over time I lost precious values I had
I hurt myself and the ones I loved
‘Til nothing and nobody could make me glad
Chorus 1
I needed a change of heart
Change of mind
Needed a change of life
And a change of forever
Verse 3
I will never forget that cold winter day
When I hit the bottom living life my own way
Stopped by a church, didn’t know just what to say
I looked up at the cross and I heard myself pray
Chorus 2
Give me a change of heart, Jesus, I invite you in
A change of mind, I turn away now from my sin
Give me a change of life, Your blood cleansed me altogether
Give me a change, yes, a change of forever
Verse 4
This is my testimony, this is my song
Won’t you take it to heart? But don’t take too long
Life’s getting shorter every day
My friend, I care enough to point you the right way
Chorus 3
Give me of heart, Jesus
Lord, I invite you in
A change of mind…..
