	Story Behind the Song I wrote this as a birthday present for the daughter of a friend, as an encouragement for my children, and as a declaration for mi amor, Melissa, all the children of bitter divorce... the message of the song, I hope, is pretty clear... As Buddha said, "No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again..." Lyrics Some nights you’d lie there in bed with the covers pulled overhead fists pressed tight against your ears but still you hear Loyalties divided what was sundered can’t be reunited no matter how hard you tried some things had to drift and die You swore you’d never make the same mistakes that those who came before you made one day you’ll know that just like you they made those promises too You’re older now, and the mists of time have swallowed how you lost sight of childhood dreams they were much more complicated than they seemed there never seems to be a happy end only brief illusions now and then of blue skies you feel compelled to chase promising futures in brighter days It takes a strong will to hold on when it seems the only victory won is the blessed curse of one more day to watch another dream fall away But therein lies the beauty of this journey we call life when one dream dies, another one opens our eyes to the sun that’s shining just behind the grayest rains a light that blinds our eyes to the memories of pain A light so clear and bright it tears apart the shroud of night confusion’s cobwebs are burned from our sight And in this dawn you’ll know this light that shines on you is hope...
