Story Behind the Song
The lyrics were written in an hour on the way home from a funeral. Based on memories brought back by visiting people that were part of my past...nothing more, nothing less...
Lyrics
Someone Special
I didn’t mean to surprise you, as I walked thru that line today
But as my turn to pass came, I knew I should be there
To be part of your yesterday
They say as you grow older, that feelings get easy to hide
So I put on my best face , and turned to look at you..
I knew that what I'd heard was a lie
For I was someone special today
When I saw you look my way
Like the very first time when your blue eyes met mine
You made me somebody special today
I met all your children and grandkids, when the service was over at noon
We had dinner at your Mother’s, I was lookin thru pictures,
And you glanced at me across the room
As our eyes came together, old memories came calling again
Then some young girl came up to me, she knew me by name,
And she said I was family to them
Yes, I was someone special today
When I saw you look my way
Like the very first time that your blue eyes met mine
You made me somebody special today
We talked about family and friends, about how life was back then…
You smiled when I said, that love was a game,
And you were my only girlfriend
It was time to leave so I held you, and we said “see you next time”
You waved goodbye, I heard a voice deep inside
Saying you’d always be on my mind
Oh , I was someone special today
When I saw you look my way
Like the very first time when your blue eyes met mine
You made me somebody special today
Like the very first time that your blue eyes met mine
You made me somebody special today
