Story Behind the Song
Recorded live at the Second Ram Folk Club in the Netherlands, December 2002.
The song was written in France by Rebecca Sullivan, an ode to a new friend and to the sweet pain of living a transient life . . .
Lyrics
a northern wind has swept you in to France's greenest hills/ the train will take you where you wish and Spain is waiting still/ oh you'll be off before daybreak to rugged, rocky lands/ every minute further now from these adoring hands.
we never felt the landscape as when you shared the view/ a window on a moving earth, magnified by you/ you are only passing through/ but your eyes on this old country have somehow made it new
a taste of bread, a taste of wine, a daily ritual/ but your lips translate a meal into a miracle/ another bar, another song, another late-night friend/ but you'll be singing somewhere else when i come here again.
you are only passing through/ but your eyes on this old country have somehow made it new . . .
