Story Behind the Song
'Ex Baby' was originally written by Tom and Joe as a straight punk song. Once finished, it lacked something. We decided to add an ending that completely threw off the rest of the song in style and composition. It works though. We used the horns essentially as backup singers, instead of the harmony, which is commonly done.
Ex Baby was pretty quick to record. I think Tom and Dos only needed two takes. The rest of us needed a few more, but overall it went pretty fast. One thing we ran into was the guitar sound. When we play live, I try to get a big, fat guitar out of my amp...however this sounded terrible once recorded due to all the mid-level sounds clashing. We spent a lot of time getting a nice thin guitar with almost no gain on the lead channel.
The chorus section is myself (Joe Uno) twice dubbed, Alex and Tom all trying to sing the right notes. The end section is the same with Dos screaming in the background. Listen for it.
Lyrics
You were my passion and my very one and only. I get so sick whenever I pass your house. And now you sit at home, so very sad and lonely. But it's your own damn fault, cuz I'm not around.
And I don't know why. Cuz I am the best in the world.
You're my, ex baby firlfriend, woah woah ooh ex baby
now its been five months and you want to get to know me. But i dont care for you so get up and walk out. And I am not alone with everything you said to me. I'll slap you in the face and knock you to the ground.
And I don't know why. Cuz I am the best in the world.
Ex baby g.f. woah woah ooh
And I don't mind, if you don't mind.
