Story Behind the Song
In the quiet, country town of Wauseon, Ohio, a giant, lighted Christmas Star is hoisted atop the town square each Christmas, as has been done every December forthe better part of the last century. Generation after generation, the Wauseon Star has served as the focal point of the town's Christmas festivities and never ceases to bring cheer to the hearts of both young and old. This is our tribute to the Star and a town unique in its steadfast traditions and sincere appreciation for the simplest joys of Christmas time.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Fulton Street is lined with lights
But none of them shines so bright
As the one on the south end of the street
People come from all around
To that sleepy country town
To see that star so full of history.
Every year at Christmas time
It shines for all to see
Filling hearts with pure delight
As we ponder its mysteries
Who knows the many hearts it's touched
Through all its Christmas snows
But of that star I love so much
There's one thing that I know.
(Chorus)
It brings in the joy of Christmas
It lights up the town so clear
If I live to be one hundred
I'll still hold the memories of it dear
And though time passes on
No matter how far I roam
There's a bright and shining star
That leads me home.
(Verse 2)
Each Christmas day I hit the road
Heading south through driving snow
Not wanting miles to keep us apart
Back in the city, I leave my cares
I know there's peace and quiet there
In that little town you'll take to heart.
The Christmas star it shines its light
Just as it did in days gone by
A reminder of a simpler way of life
And then I see it up so high
Its like a long-lost childhood friend
And through this snowy scene
I'm reminded once again
What Christmas really means.
(Repeat Chorus)
(Solos)
(Repeat Chorus)
And though time passes on
No matter how far I roam
There's a bright and shining star
That leads me home.
