Story Behind the Song
It occurred to me that when we choose to marry someone, we should be saying, "You are the one I want to go through life with, through both the good and the bad." And not, "You are the only one that can make me happy." I may have intellectually known this as a teenager, but I had not internalized it. So all you young people out there, ponder this and all its ramifications. Be ready to make this very important commitment to the one you love.
Lyrics
HAPPILY EVER AFTER
by Linda McKeeth © 1/02
If you say I love you,
I want to marry you,
And live happily ever after.
You don't understand.
If you say I love you,
I want to marry you,
And live happily ever after.
You don't know the plan.
Chorus:
There is a happily ever after,
But it's not meant for mortality.
Yes, there's a happily ever after,
But it is meant for eternity
If you say I love you,
I want to marry you,
And live happily ever after.
You're missing a part.
If you say I love you,
I want to marry you,
And live happily ever after.
There's no change of heart.
Chorus
So say I love you,
I want to marry you,
Together we'll take life's journey.
You're starting to see.
So say I love you,
I want to marry you,
And go through both joy and sorrow.
That's how it will be.
Chorus
So say I love you,
I want to marry you,
We'll learn to grow and change within.
You've made a good choice.
So say I love you,
I want to marry you,
Struggle, work, and endure to the end.
You will hear His voice.
Modified Chorus:
It's time for happily ever after.
Yes, welcome to eternity.
It's time for happily ever after.
You're one with each other and one with me.
Chorus
