A dark brooding cautionary diatribe. With a left hook towards the end. Kind of like all of his songs.

    Story Behind the Song
This song was created by Keram at his own Chemical Light Factory studios in Los Angeles. He claims that he was influenced by Neil Postman's book "Amusing Ourselves To Death". Of course being in Hollywood also helps. On several different occasions he went back to the song and had different friends play new parts. Ed MAxwell, with whom Keram worked on the unreleased Ribcage album "For MAchines to Dream About" plays upright bass. Martin Stelnick played harmonica while visiting from Toronto. Both are incredibly talented session players and help this track stand out amongst Keram's relentless output of new musical material.

    Lyrics
I AM NOT SINGING THIS FOR YOU
    (Hollywood - June 1999)
    Copyright 1999 Keram Malicki-Sanchez (ASCAP/SOCAN)

I am not singing this for you.
Don't foolishly search here for answers
I am the needle in a haystack
Maybe we'll find a common language

I'm hoping this era will pass
    This televisual molasses
which has left nothing here for us
Which has taken something from us

    Spare silence is the only thing I trust;
What it takes it gives back to us
I've been deceitful for asking you here
I am not singing this for you to hear

I am not sure I'm ready yet
to step back out into this social Port-o-Let
    Except my body's wearing out
I am not willing to fade out

I can not ask the Christ for this --
but in the same light -- live through this
and just like I used you for a kiss
I am not singing this for you

    I am the hypocrite
because in looking for the truth
we simply rearrange the living room
    then call the furnishings custom-made

I'm hoping this era will pass
    this televisual molasses
which has left nothing here for us
which has taken so much from us
I am not sure I'm ready yet
    except my body's wearing out
I am not willing to fade out

I am not singing this for you
I am not singing this for you
I am not singing this for you
    I am not singing this
