Story Behind the Song
The lyrics came from a dream that Betty had: Soon to be divorced woman leaves her trailor and man behind and jumps into her Cadillac and drives to Nevada through Area 51 to Roswell, NM.
But experiences an alien encounter/abduction in Arizona.
"Memorized by the yellow lines, still I don't know why I didn't say goodbye...and I apologize." She is drawn to a certain area unbeknownst to her and has a somewhat paranormal experience.

Lyrics
Arizona
(live version)
I woke up this morning
poured myself a martini dry
Don't normally smoke but I thought today I'd try
Put on my bathrobe and slippers
headed slowly for the bathroom
the water slowly filling the tub
But I changed my mind
thought I'd go for a short drive
Put the convertible top down and
headed slowly to the outskirts of town
I don't know
well, I don't know why
Why I didn't say goodbye
and I apologize
Just memorized by the yellow lines
the distant haze and the heat waves
seem to call my name to
Arizona
Left the bills unpaid on the kitchen table
Cigarette burning in the ash tray
the water slowly overfilling the bathtub
I don't know
Why I didn't say goodbye
Just memorized bt the lines
and the distant haze and the heat waves
seem to call my name to
Arizona
To Arizona
Lady Luck is but a whore
always leaving my life when the price ain't right
I don't know
well, I don't know
why I didn't say goodbye
Just memorized by the yellow lines
the distant haze and the heat waves
seem to call my name to...
Arizona
to Arizona
I'm going to Arizona...
