Story Behind the Song
Well, a band was born in Long Beach - called Dali Danger – born the coffee houses on Broadway and in the living room of an old Craftsman home which was rich with musical spirits. They spent night after night jamming at raucous volume levels and (miraculously) got nothing but compliments from the neighbors.
One sunny LBC weekend they found John on his hands and knees in front of his amp in the living room playing at top volume, all alone. He had, in front of him, the chorus lyrics to this song. He was supposed to be in bed resting after getting his wisdom teeth pulled, but, it seems, he was possessed.
Shortly thereafter Lisa and her crew went to see a Polanski film called Bitter Moon. Somehow that very bizarre and disturbing film inspired her to write the rather upbeat and giddy lyric and melody that begin with "I've been waitin' on a mountain, I've been waiting by the sea..." Pop genius.
The song formed itself when John's wisdom-tooth jam and desperate lyrics met Lisa's happy-go-lucky-search-song met Camille's crushing vocal melody on the chorus. It was one of the first songs for Dali Danger, and remained with the band through its Gush years and onto the CD.
Lyrics
Chorus:
I had to piss you off to leave rough!
