Story Behind the Song
"I'm Not Coming Home" was written in 1999 and orginally appeared on "Pushin' the Envelope", an acoustic split with Billy Oates. That version wasn't all that good, and neither is this one. Oh well, some tunes just need to be abandoned. Smith and I attempted a full band version with heavy guitars, but alas, my sorry voice and guitar playing was all the tune really needed.
Lyrics
How do you tell someone theyre not worth fighting for
Your feelings have changed and you dont love them anymore
How do you keep from breaking someones heart?
Watch their whole universe collapse and fall apart
How do you live with destroying someones dreams?
Allow their whole life to unravel at the seams
Life can be like death and Ill never know why
We all seem to like watching each other die
Im not coming home tonight
Im gonna sit up here alone and drink myself to sleep
Time can heal almost any kind of pain
But one as strong as love just can’t be erased
Distance makes the heart grow fond, delusional, and estranged
I just cant take being that far away
My thinking and my heart ache has brought me to my knees
And talking to you is slowly killing me
I dont think Ill ever make it through
Im bleeding on the inside, so what should I do?
