Progressive pop ballad about loneliness |
Credits: Written and performed by Errol, with John Blanco on background vocals and guitars |
Story Behind the Song
The inspiration for this song came from the movie of the same name. Although I am one who cherises his 'alone' time and sometimes wish I was on an island by myself, Tom Hanks portrayal of a man facing the ultimate and perpetual loneliness touched me deeply and made me appreciate the world aroumd me a little more. When Tom Hanks threw his Wilson volley ball away in anger, I just about jumped out of my seat. Wilson was his only friend! It was at that moment that I felt how cruel loneliness can be.
This song started out as a simple pop tune, but my progressive influences got the better of me.
Lyrics
Sitting alone in the darkness of the night
Walking away the days on the sands of time
Staring out at the vastness of the ocean
Wondering why he came to be this way
Closing his eyes to get back home
Praying for a miracle tonight
Gazing at a billion stars above
Longing for the life that he once knew
All alone tonight
All alone, our hero's all alone
Alone tonight
Alone...our hero`s all alone tonight
Cast away in a corner of the world that`s been forgotten
Rubbing sticks together to survive
There's not another soul around in his new world
Loneliness, his solitary bane
Painting faces on the rocks in a circle all around him
The only friends in his new neighborhood
Quiet conversations spin around inside his head
As he forgets the faces he once knew
All alone tonight
All alone, our hero`s all alone
Alone tonight
Alone...our hero`s all alone tonight
Living to get back home
No one to touch
No one to feel
No one to lead him to what`s real
No sight, no sound
A world so lost, he can`t be found
No one to share
No one to hold
No one to look into his soul
There`s no one there for him to love
Living to get back home
Sitting alone in the darkness of the night
Breathing in the sky, his heart begins to soar
In a sudden twist of irony, a miracle is born
As another`s cast away upon his shore
[Chorus]
