    Story Behind the Song
Touring with Black Oak Arkansas we were crossing the desert out west one night and I asked Jim Dandy what was the deal with all that "sell your soul for a record deal" stuff. Jim told me that "if you want it that bad, you' ve already got it." When we came home from that leg of the tour I wrote this song. Like all my songs, it only took a matter of minutes (15-45) to write. I only write when a song comes to me. Never "try" to write a song.

    Lyrics
Lord, I've been down this road so many times before
and I just keep knockin' at the devil's door
I had it all but I lost everything
Just goes to show you what this lifestyle brings, yeah.
If I had a dime for all the girls that I had
I'd be a rich man now and it makes me mad
cause I only want one that loves and pleases
and I'm tired of sexually transmitted diseases.
So deliver me from this trouble and strife
Forgive me. Take away the burden of my wicked life.
Save me from the hounds of hell on my heel.
Deliver me. Lord, I nevr meant to make that deal.
When I was just a boy, I only wanted one thing
play my guitar and make the young girls scream
I wanted it so bad I went down to the crossroads.
Now I'm prayin' to the Lord relieve this heavy load!
    REPEAT CHORUS
    SOLO
Well, my soul is black and I need some sunshine
and there's not a livin' soul that's a friend of mine
So listen to me son, 'fore you choose your way
Well, you better make sure because the judgement day is comin'!
    REPEAT CHORUS
