Story Behind the Song
One of the few songs where I wrote the lyrics first, and then came up with a melody. It's a tounge-in-cheek look at the vagaries of being without a partner.
Lyrics
Being alone isn't all that bad,
Just bring a good book and a writing pad.
No one waits at home impatiently.
If you're worried, you can leave yourself a message on the machine.
Whether you're in the country or in the city,
When you're alone, you know you're just as pretty.
When someone shining bright appears in your sight,
You're free to be his secret admirer tonight.
When you're alone, you know, you just might meet someone,
Who changes your life for better or worse.
But don't think love will cure all your pain.
Chances are when all is said and done, you'll feel just the same.
When you're alone, you know you don't have to be lonely,
You just have to keep busy.
Welcome to the world's largest club.
Be thankful you don't have to invite them all up.
