Story Behind the Song
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
“Bye Bye Lida” song commemorates Eddie “Gwen” Araujo
Los Angeles, California, December 16, 2002 –
“Bye Bye Lida” is a new tune by singer/songwriter/guitarist Rob Blaze that was inspired by the tragic murder of Eddie “Gwen” Araujo. Blaze said he decided to write “Bye Bye Lida” after he heard about the incident from his girlfriend, who was local to the news, last October. Blaze's original songs span a wide spectrum from folk to rock to electronica and beyond.
The song is easily accessible online at www.byebyelida.com, where you’ll find the lyrics, song mp3 download, and news story providing the details of the tragedy which inspired "Bye Bye Lida". The site also tells about the relation that "Eddie/Gwen/Lida" had to Gwen Stefani, singer for the band “No Doubt”. Basically, Eddie Araujo was a cross-dressing 17-year-old boy, tragically murdered several months ago, who loved the band “No Doubt” and its singer Gwen Stefani so much that he even adopted her name for his female identity (Araujo went by 'Lida', too). “Bye Bye Lida” also features up-and-coming recording artist “V” backing him up on the track.

Lyrics
'Bye, Bye Lida'
(R. Blaze, 10.29.2002)
[G C, G C, G C D]
Though I never met you girl
You came into my world
and it was a time of so much pain
My honey said to me
Oh what a shame to see
the hate of 3 boys took you down
CHORUS:
Bye, Bye Lida
May you be in a better place
Where you can be free
To be
Who you wanna be
I know your eyes could see
You'd only hoped to be free
Maybe a little bit pretty
[Even] with your heart of gold
Why'd they have to be so cold
and put you down in a shallow grave
CHORUS
BRIDGE
[A-] Daisy, Daisy
[D-] It's too late to save me
[A-] Daisy I'm alright
[D-] Daisy it's OK
[A-] Daisy, Daisy
[D / Dsus] Now I'm free...
October came too soon
Under a harvest moon
Sometimes there's things you can't get back
When the time has come
The geese will make their run
As we bundle up against the cold
CHORUS
As the sky grows dark
You're always in our heart
We won't ever forget about you
[Eddie you were] Only seventeen
Why'd they have to be so mean
Another victim of hate and fear
CHORUS (modified)
Bye, Bye Lida
[I know] you're in a better place
[and you're] flying free
you can be
who you wanna be
