Story Behind the Song
Written 10-5-01 in New York at the site of WTC disaster.Every life lost in the WTC was a tower in the lives of people they loved and touched. It wasn’t just two towers that fell on Sept. 11, 2001 but thousands of irreplaceable towers. That realization gave birth to “My Tower Fell” written from the perspective of loved ones left behind.
Lyrics
MY TOWER FELL
More than concrete or steel, plaster or tile.
You were the strength of my life, joy behind every smile.
You were a tower of hope, peace in times of despair,
My foundation and love, my compassion and care.
But my tower fell when you died. My tower fell when you cried.
My tower fell when you said “goodbye” for the last time,
For the last time.
My tower fell. Now you’re gone. My tower fell and I’m all alone.
My tower fell but it will live on deep inside of me.
Live on inside of me.
More than buildings of stone, of granite or glass.
The mem’ries built through the years I promise will last.
I will cherish them all and build upon them each day
Until I hear your voice call and I am carried away.
